Anamorphic Billboard Content: Design for the Real Viewpoint

2 min read

Anamorphic billboard content creates an illusion of depth by designing an image for a particular screen and viewing position. The viral recording is often taken from the ideal angle. A real campaign must also account for people approaching from other directions, surrounding light and the time available to read the message.

Obtain the screen specification

Ask the media owner for dimensions, pixel layout, corner geometry, playback rules and approved production templates. Do not build an animation for a generic rectangular frame and assume it will translate to a curved or corner display.

Choose the primary viewpoint

Map where the intended audience will stand or move. A strong depth effect from one position may distort from another. Discuss the tradeoff between the illusion and general readability before the concept is approved.

Keep the brand understandable

The object can emerge dramatically while the product name remains stable and readable. Avoid requiring viewers to watch a full narrative loop before recognizing the advertiser. People may encounter the screen halfway through playback.

Test on a model of the location

Review the creative against the real screen geometry and surrounding environment. Check safe boundaries, apparent object scale and whether background architecture supports or competes with the illusion. Confirm file and playback requirements with the media owner before final rendering.

Plan the social version separately

A camera recording of the installation can demonstrate the effect, but social viewers need context and a clean composition. Plan the recording position, timing and permission requirements. A separate flat-screen adaptation may communicate more clearly than cropping the installation footage.

Use success measures suited to the campaign: attention, recall, visits or qualified interest. A visually surprising clip alone does not show commercial impact.
