When to Refresh a Virtual Tour After a Renovation

Oct 21
2 min read

A virtual tour can keep working long after the space changes. That becomes a problem when a guest follows an old route, a buyer sees removed features or a customer arrives expecting an entrance that no longer exists. The decision to refresh a virtual tour should follow the importance of the change, not an arbitrary anniversary.

Identify changes that affect decisions

Prioritize alterations to entrances, circulation, room layout, accessibility features, major finishes and advertised amenities. Minor decorative changes may not justify immediate recapture. A change that affects how visitors use the space deserves more attention.

Compare the live tour with the current location, not just with the original photography plan. Hotspots, labels and downloadable information may also be out of date.

Assess whether a partial update will blend

Replacing selected panoramas can be efficient when the platform supports it and the surrounding views remain compatible. Check lighting, camera height, seasonal details and navigation continuity. A new room connected to visibly older scenes can create a confusing impression.

Map dependencies

If a wall moved, the change may affect more than one panorama. Review every viewpoint that shows the altered area and every navigation link that passes through it. Update the floor plan where relevant.

Schedule after the space is ready

Wait until important finishes, signage and furniture are in place. A rushed capture during final installation can require another visit. Coordinate with operations so customers or staff are not unexpectedly included.

Validate the updated experience

Test the route on mobile and desktop. Check labels, destination links and the first view a visitor sees. Record the update date internally and keep a clear distinction between the current tour and archived versions.

AVL can help assess immersive spaces and plan recapture alongside property films. Share your renovation plan with the team to decide whether a focused update or a new tour better represents the location.
